Conversation Heart Sugar Cookie Bars Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 Degrees F. Spray a 13”x18” cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment or using a hand held mixer, cream butter and sugar until fluffy and light in color (about 2-3 minutes).
  3. Mix in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla until well incorporated.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and cornstarch. Slowly mix into the wet ingredients.
  5. Stir in sprinkles. Spread evenly into prepared cookie sheet.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned and center is pale and slightly undercooked for a moist bar. Cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, cream butter until fluffy. Mix in heavy cream and vanilla and then add powdered sugar ½ cup at a time until reaching the desired frosting consistency. Mix in salt.
  8. Divide frosting into 6 bowls. Add food coloring (except red) into 5 bowls using one color per bowl and leaving one white. In a sixth bowl, dye the white frosting red and transfer to pastry bag with small size tip (#2) for piping sayings onto cookies.
  9. Cut bars out with a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Spread with icing and pipe conversation heart sayings with red decorators icing.

Recipe notes

Substitute: store bought vanilla frosting and red decorators icing with tip can be used in place of the vanilla frosting.
