Conversation Heart Sugar Cookie Bars Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 Degrees F. Spray a 13”x18” cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment or using a hand held mixer, cream butter and sugar until fluffy and light in color (about 2-3 minutes).
- Mix in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla until well incorporated.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and cornstarch. Slowly mix into the wet ingredients.
- Stir in sprinkles. Spread evenly into prepared cookie sheet.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned and center is pale and slightly undercooked for a moist bar. Cool completely.
- For the frosting, cream butter until fluffy. Mix in heavy cream and vanilla and then add powdered sugar ½ cup at a time until reaching the desired frosting consistency. Mix in salt.
- Divide frosting into 6 bowls. Add food coloring (except red) into 5 bowls using one color per bowl and leaving one white. In a sixth bowl, dye the white frosting red and transfer to pastry bag with small size tip (#2) for piping sayings onto cookies.
- Cut bars out with a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Spread with icing and pipe conversation heart sayings with red decorators icing.
Recipe notes
Substitute: store bought vanilla frosting and red decorators icing with tip can be used in place of the vanilla frosting.
